Afghanistan to Host India for Three-Match T20I Series in Delhi

Afghanistan will host India in a three-match T20I series in New Delhi from September 13 to September 17, 2026, with all three matches scheduled to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed the series, which will be an important addition to the international calendar ahead of the Asian Games.

Although Afghanistan will be the designated host, the matches will be played in India. Afghanistan has continued to stage its home international fixtures outside the country in recent years, with India and the UAE among the venues used. The ACB has described India as an important setting for major fixtures and sees the series as another opportunity to strengthen its relationship with the BCCI.

India dominated that June series, winning the one-off Test by an innings and 300 runs before completing a 3-0 ODI series sweep. In the final ODI in Chennai, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 110 while India chased down Afghanistan's total comfortably.

Afghanistan are also entering the September series after a strong ODI campaign in Ireland. They recently secured a 2-0 lead in the five-match ODI series, which also confirmed their qualification for the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup. Rashid Khan and Afghanistan's bowling attack have been among the key talking points during the series.

For India, the T20I series will provide another opportunity to prepare players ahead of the Asian Games, with the men's cricket competition scheduled later in September. The Delhi fixtures should also give both teams valuable experience in conditions at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
